Urban Airship was launched in May of 2009. The company was the brainchild of Steven Osborn, our current CTO. Steven had been tasked with implementing an in-app purchase solution for a popular gaming company he was working for. While developing the solution, he discovered how resource-intensive the project was. He realized that if he could devote the time, energy, and money to create the perfect solution, he could provide a valuable product for other smart phone app developers. Osborn reached out to his former colleague, Scott Kveton, and the seed of the new company was planted.
Within a month, Urban Airship landed its first customer. Since then, the company has signed on more than 9,000 customers, sent out more than 2 billion messages, and connected to more than 100 million mobile devices.
