I read the book, and started apply for jobs as a developer. Over the last 13 years I've worked for startups, small companies, mega-companies on technologies ranging from C#, FoxPro, awk, vb6, Pascal, Java, C, Objective C, ending back now at my favorite language JavaScript. In the end, I simply love solving problems, everything else is bonus.
